Qwa Qwa Newsletter

July 2014

God has a very special love for children. That is the reason we focus on children, through the Mustard Seed, the feeding project, Holiday Bible Clubs, the food project, the clothing project and the Sunday School. We believe that if, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can win the children for Jesus, in 15 to 20 years we can meaningfully impact the society of Qwa Qwa. It seems a long and wearisome task, but by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit working through the word of God, it will be worth it. Remember “small beginnings can lead to great endings.” Remember too that ‘Rome was not built in a day.’ Through diligence, perseverance , sound teaching and the blessing of God, great things can be accomplished in Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

July 2014 Holiday Bible Club.

Mabolela HBC 8th – 11th July

Despite the cold weather, an average of 176 children per day, ranging in age from 1 year olds to 18 years old, gathered on the open field each day of the HBC and enjoyed playing games – some to help their co-ordination, some to help them in other areas of their physical growth – all a lot of fun. Of course they are divided in age groups, and the games are graded accordingly.

The children are taught Bible lessons and stories, and learn an appropriate Bible verse each day . Prizes are awarded for memory work. Pray, with us, that these verses will drop into their hearts and help them to live for Jesus for the rest of their lives.

Whilst the younger ones enjoy a nutritious meal (the only one most of them will receive that day), the older children are taught Biblically based life skills and an appropriate Scripture verse. Then they too go and enjoy a meal.

Praise God for our competent leaders, thirty at this HBC, including some visitors from the Netherlands, who gave of their time and skills to teach and have fun with the future generation and future church leaders. Please pray that these teenagers, who face many temptations, will continue to live for Jesus and honour him in all they do.

Phomolong HBC 15th – 16th July.

History was made in Qwa Qwa on these dates as we ran an HBC in a brand new area, as far as we are concerned. The HBC took place in the village of Phomolong. It is a mixed community, with some quite well off people and others who are very poor, and others who are desperately poor.

We had an average of 132 children over the two days. The children really enjoyed the games, Bible stories, memory verses and just being loved by the faithful leaders, some of whom were prepared to walk the long distance to Phomolong. The children and the leaders (18) had to put up with the cold, the strong wind and the swirling dust driven on by the howling wind. Never the less everyone had a good time.

Without any place to cook, we gave each of the children packets of sniggles and an orange. They also received sweets and prizes for good memory work.

Many of these children (about 60%) made commitments to Jesus. Now we have much follow up work to do to disciple these precious souls for Jesus. Our aim was evangelism, as we knew very few of these children before going there and calling them from all directions. Some visits have been made, and more will be made in the next few weeks, and a Saturday Bible Club will take place soon. This will become a monthly occurrence.

Pray that these children will be discipled for Jesus and will remain firm in Christ.

Thanks

A very special thanks to all of you who donated so generously to make this holiday club happen and to all who prayed. May the blessing of the Lord abound to you.

Much love in Jesus,

Reg and Cynthia Schafer and Julia O Connell.
